Today was my first day of class. I only have classes on Monday and Wednesday, which is really nice because I live 3 miles away from class.
I am taking Business Law, Survey of British Museums, and Principles of Marketing.
One thing I really like about my classes/studying in London is the people are SO much more diverse. My teachers are from Nigeria, England, and Spain, and my classmates range from study abroad students (America), Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Norway.
When comparing classes from here to back home, the major difference is what work actually gets graded, or as they say in England "marked." We still have smaller assignments, quizzes, and class activities, but they aren't graded. The only items that count toward our final grade are mid-term and final essays/tests.
My museums class is going to be really cool - our teacher (who is really quirky, but knows EVERYTHING) will take us to as many museums as possible during class and teach us about history, art, science, etc. Our first museum visit will be on Wednesday!
A fun random fact I learned: England's version of the mnemonic for memorizing colors ROYGBIV stands for Richard Of York Gave Blood In Vain. When the Americans in the class told him how we pronounce it, he gave us the weirdest look ever.
Also, they pronounce the letter z, "zed."
Changing subjects to the whole terrorism-thing going on in Europe - we had a tube strike all day Monday, which I heard the grape vine was just a cover for terrorism plots, but who knows if that's believeable. Nothing has gone on in London, at least I don't think, but there is in Paris, I believe.
I don't have any pictures from today, except for this quick picture I took on my walk home. The sun was setting and it made the buildings look cool.
Side note - see the LOOK LEFT at the bottom left corner? Those come in handy at crosswalks to know which way to look for oncoming cars, since they drive on the opposite side of the road here.
